Blog no. 3 (Reading no. 1)

Updated: Oct 27, 2019

The reading “Nature, Sound Art and the Sacred” by David Dunn explores the use of sound in the natural world and compares the vibrations we hear to the biosphere of life on earth. Having the line between sound and music blurred as natural sounds found in nature are symphonies of life and reflect the environment. Davids projects both captured environments “sounds” as well as animal noises and showed the complexity of life, despite humans inability to communicate with the world which surrounds us. Throughout the reading, there is a commonly touched on the theme of a changing ecosystem. This is reflected through the industrialization and the disappearance of nature in a pure form.

Exploring the idea of sound-art music found in nature, the article explores how the sounds of animals/ the environment living tells a story reflecting the environment surrounding the listening ear or microphone. Exploring around capturing the sounds of the world, while not traditional art, is such an expression/ reflection on one's-life.
